Lyme disease is the fastest growing bacterial disease in the world. It can cause or worsen over 300 health problems and infect every part of the body. Infected mothers can transmit Lyme to their fetus, or babies through mother's milk. Standard blood tests are about 50% accurate. Lyme can be transmitted by vectors including ticks, flies, spiders and mosquitoes. Common co infections include babesia, bartonella and ehrlichia.
Q: Do you treat lyme disease?
A: No. Chiropractors aren't allowed to treat infectious or contagious diseases. But we can use homeopathic and nutritional support to help manage symptoms. Ionic silver has been shown to potentiate antibiotic effectiveness. Some plant based and allied supplements can help weaken or break down bacterial biofilms (shown in vitro studies), a big problem in chronic Lyme cases. Homeopathic and botanical remedies seem to help the immune system better fight many pathogens and augment the body's ability to eliminate toxins, which can help lessen 'die off' reactions.
Structural, herbal, homeopathic and acupuncture based therapies can help support the body's immune abilities. Such therapies are generally compatible with standard medical interventions. We're not treating Lyme -- or any -- disease per se -- we're assisting the body's ability to fight them on its own.
Q: Do you use a Rife machine?
A: No. I use Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM), which uses electromagnetic energy from 0.1 - 999.9 Hz, or cycles per second. Clinical results indicate that certain frequencies in the FSM range may help symptoms of lyme and other pathogenic issues.
Q: What's the advantage of using FSM over Rife energies?
A: It depends on the individual. FSM has the advantage of the equipment being approved for medical use as TENS units, For those who wish to purchase a unit for home use, the doctor initially programs the unit, then reprograms it as the person's needs change. The doctor is also available for consultation. Depending on the person's insurance, part of the unit's cost and/or the electrodes may be reimbursable if used for pain management. Doctors of all disciplines use FSM for a wide range of health issues. It's unfortunate that Rife machines don't have FDA approval.
For people with macular degeneration (AMD), the possibility of Lyme disease bears investigation, as Lyme is known to cause and worsen this and other eye problems. Lyme bacteria have been found in all parts of the eye, optic nerve and brain. Remember, the retina is specialized nerve tissue. One thing chiropractors treat is disorders of the nervous system. Of course, seeing an eye specialist is always advised for any eye problem.
Improved vision is frequently related by patients after receiving cranial therapy. Noninvasive acupuncture point stimulation and nutritional therapies tend to increase the benefits of musculoskeletal care, for this and other conditions.
Alternative therapies which many AMD patients have related as helping improve vision include cranial adjusting, needle and non-invasive acupuncture point stimulation, and Frequency Specific Microcurrent.
